Safety Comparison

The Enclave has standard OnStar®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Murano doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies.

Both the Enclave and the Murano have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and available all wheel drive.

The Buick Enclave weighs 639 to 1130 pounds more than the Nissan Murano. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty Comparison

The Enclave comes with a full 4 year/50,000 mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The Murano’s 3 year/36,000 mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 14,000 miles sooner.

The Enclave comes with free roadside assistance for 5 years 100,000 miles. Buick will send help if you run out of gas, need a jump start, lock your keys in or need any assistance on the road. Nissan doesn’t give free roadside assistance for the Murano.

Buick’s powertrain warranty covers the Enclave 40,000 miles longer than Nissan covers the Murano. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Murano ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Enclave’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Murano’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are almost 3 times as many Buick dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier to get service under the Enclave’s warranty.

Engine Comparison

The Enclave’s 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 10 more horsepower (275 vs. 265) and 3 lbs.-ft. more torque (251 vs. 248) than the Murano’s 3.5 DOHC V6.

For more instantaneous acceleration and better engine flexibility in any gear, the Enclave’s engine produces its peak torque at lower RPM’s than the Murano (3200 vs. 4400).

Fuel Economy and Range Comparison

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Buick Enclave uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Murano requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 25 to 50 cents more per gallon.
